Eddie Van Wilson

Rock Island, TN resident and Scott County, TN native, Eddie Van Wilson, age 76, was born September 27, 1946 and died December 7, 2022 at St. Thomas River Park Hospital in McMinnville, TN following an extended illness.           

He joined the service in Knoxville, TN on September 2, 1965 and was discharged in Dayton, OH on January 1, 1969. Eddie served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and completed a tour of duty in the Vietnam war. His military honors included the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal. He then worked for the Oster Corp. in the maintenance department where he retired. Mr. Wilson was the son of the late Clark and Opal Lawson Wilson, he was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Novella Gunnels.

Mr. Wilson is survived by son, Dewayne Wilson of Doyle, TN;  two grandchildren, Lauren (Dillan) Wood of McMinnville, TN and Logan Wilson of Florida;  great-granddaughter, Adeline Wood of McMinnville, TN; sisters, June McKinney of Sunbright, TN, Louella Gunter of Rock Island, TN, Louise (David) Young, Sue (Lawrence) Bowling and Kay Wilson , all of Robbins, TN and Cheryl (Harold) Martin of Clinton, TN; brothers, Joe Wilson and Ray Wilson and Gary Wilson , all of Oneida, TN and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2022 in High’s Chapel. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Warren County, TN. Visitation will be Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at High Funeral Home.

Full military honors will be administered by American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kids of the Community or Relay for Life.
