Walter Mills Bishop, Jr.

McMinnville resident and Van Buren County, TN native Walter Mills Bishop, Jr., age 90, was born March 14, 1932 and died June 25, 2022 at NHC Healthcare of Smithville following a brief illness. A retired engineer with Powermatic for 42 years, owner/operator of Unit Specialties, United States Army veteran of Korea and member and former Elder of East End Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Walter Mills Bishop, Sr. and the late Mamie M. Hargrove Bishop. He was married November 3, 1952 to Mary Ann Davenport Bishop who preceded him in death August 14, 2016. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Hennessee and Louise Aldredge and three brothers, Elvin Bishop, James "Sonny" Bishop and Billy Bob Bishop. Mr. Bishop is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Walter Mills Bishop, III and Cheryl of Manchester, TN; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Donnie Redmon of McMinnville and Judith and Steve Miller of Mobile, AL; six grandchildren, John (Mandy) Redmon of Cleveland, TN, Andrew (Candace) Redmon of Tullahoma, TN, Mills Bishop, IV (Summer) of Hillsboro, TN, Lyndsey (Jesse) Bouchard of Manchester, TN, Kelcie Fearing of Manchester, TN and Mary Maddlen (Samuel) Allen of Theodore, AL; five great-grandchildren, Kate Reeves, Jacob Pennell, Keith Wells, Alora Marianne Redmon and Joanna Redmon; two sisters, Elise Killian and Wallene Scott both of McMinnville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in High's Chapel with Charles Williams and Kevin Key officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery with full military honors administered by the American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday and 12:00 p.m. until time of service Tuesday at High's. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ of Greater Daytona c/o High's. Online condolences may be made at www.highfuneralhome.com.
